I love Japan and one of the things I missed in Japan is Curry House CoCo Ichibanya which serves really good curry dishes. So just imagine how excited I became when I heard that they will open a branch here in the Philippines last February 2015. And finally, my boyfriend and I were able to brave the traffic at Ortigas just to visit their branch at Estancia Mall.
Well, the first thing I noticed with their Philippine branch is how they made their interior look more modern. CoCo Ichibanya is a fast food in Japan and so their space there is smaller and less formal.
Nevertheless, I’m happy because the taste of their curry sauce is just like how it is at Japan. The consistency of their sauce is perfect. Not too thick, not too thin. And what’s good about their curry is that you can actually choose how spicy you want your curry to be. You may also choose the serving size of your rice. My boyfriend went for their Pari-Pari Chicken Curry, while I went for the more traditional Pork Cutlet Curry. Just look how the curry sauce is overflowing. Yum!
Pari-Pari Chicken Curry (Php 480.00 – 400g Rice, Hot + Extra Pari-Pari Chicken Toppings).
Pork Cutlet Curry (Php 380.00 – 400g Rice, Extra Hot).
On the other hand, our friend went for a set menu. Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry (Php 440.00 – Regular Rice + Mini Salad and Calamansi Ice Tea).
If you haven’t tried a Japanese curry before, it is a very flavourful version of curry and gives you the impression that it has a lot of spices in it. Actually, my mother told me before that it’s more like an Indian cuisine rather a Japanese cuisine. Well, it originated from India for a reason.
I really love CoCo Ichibanya’s curry and will definitely come back here again. My boyfriend who used to hate curries is now also looking forward on our next visit at CoCo Ichibanya. :p
